In the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, machinery and other products must meet the requirements specified in the European directives and regulations.

Suva supports manufacturers and operators of machinery, systems and other products with matters surrounding CE conformity, performs type-examinations and offers specialist courses.

The basic safety requirements for machinery are set out in the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This will be replaced by the European Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230
with effect from 20 January 2027.
