SIGMATEK Schweiz AG

X-DIAS in use | PLC Put to the Test
Simply plug functional modules as a whole into preconfigured circuit boards instead of time-consuming and error-prone wiring of individual wires: This is the basic concept behind the new ‘X-Dias’ I/O system, which SIGMATEK officially launched last year at the SPS trade fair as an addition to its proven ‘S-DIAS’ control portfolio. It was developed by the local automation expert at the suggestion of and in partnership with Emco-Test, a long-standing customer, also based in Salzburg. The globally successful manufacturer of high-quality hardness testing machines was looking for a solution that would, on the one hand, keep the packing density of the increasingly complex control system under control despite the continuously growing range of variants and functions and, on the other hand, make the connection technology faster and easier to install, future-proof and yet economical – all while maintaining a high degree of modularity and production volumes in the mid three-digit range. This seemingly impossible balancing act was achieved in the form of the jointly developed I/O innovation ‘X-DIAS’, which is now going into series production in Emco-Test's latest generation of hardness testing machines, the ‘Vision Line’. see technical report: Austromatisierung - issue 5+6/2025

Static Code Analysis: Identifying Errors Early On
With the growing complexity of automation software, code quality assurance is becoming increasingly important. SIGMATEK's LASAL CLASS engineering tool now offers an optional “Static Code Analysis” (SCA) extension for checking control code created in Structured Text. SCA checks the code base for possible runtime errors and undefined behavior, such as uninitialized variables, returning a pointer to a local variable, implicit conversions, etc. – without having to execute the code. A large number of different, simultaneously running test rules analyze a wide variety of aspects of the control code and identify any quality defects, non-compliance with guidelines, or violations of internal coding standards at an early stage. Trivial errors that are often difficult to find can be prevented by using SCA, reducing the workload on the team and increasing productivity and software quality, not only during development but also during maintenance. Users have very flexible configuration options: each of the more than 50 predefined rules for variables, types, functions, and methods can be parameterized individually. The tool can also calculate metrics. Metrics are measures that evaluate various aspects of the code base. Fully configurable naming conventions are also possible. The rules, metrics, or naming conventions can be enabled or disabled – both individually and in groups. Automated basic checks allow reviewers to focus on the correctness of the logic and architecture. The analysis in a separate output window clearly displays error messages, which can be double-clicked to jump to the corresponding location in the code. Configurable, color-coded priority levels for individual errors in the output provide clarity. Error output can be suppressed line by line using code comments.

ET 0710
The latest addition to SIGMATEK's HMI portfolio, the ET 0710, combines compact plastic design with the latest processor architecture and a high-resolution 7-inch multitouch display. This slim operating panel is therefore ideal for smaller machines with limited space and price-sensitive applications that want to enhance with modern HTML5 visualization. At its heart is a quad-core EDGE3 technology processor with four cores (4x 1.6 GHz), 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM, and 8 GB microSD memory. This allows even memory-intensive web HMI applications to be displayed smoothly. Thanks to its projected capacitive glass surface, the fanless HMI can be operated precisely and intuitively using multi-finger gestures. The 7-inch widescreen with a resolution of 1.024 x 600 pixels displays colors and visualizations brilliantly. The LASAL VISUDesigner Tool (HTML5) offers a wide range of ready-to-use operating elements and controls for creating visualizations. The ET 0710 has one Ethernet, one CAN, one USB 2.0 Type A, one USB 2.0 Type C, and one RS485 interface. The ET 0710-02 offers an additional Ethernet, CAN, and RS232 interface. The ET 0710-01 variant comes with 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x Ethernet, 2x CAN, 1x USB 2.0 Type A, 1x USB Type C, 1x RS232, 1x RS485, 1x LP-Bus, and 1x M-Bus. This allows users to select the panel or interfaces that best suit their requirements and achieve cost efficiency. The plastic housing of the ET 0710 also contributes to an optimized price-performance ratio and is designed for industrial use. A multi-status LED is located on the front. The web HMI is developed for installation in control cabinets and has IP65 protection on the front. Dimensions: 193 x 130 x 37 mm (W x H x D)
