Unlike solid conductors, where current is carried by electrons, electrical conduction in liquids occurs through the movement of dissolved ions. Conductivity is determined using a cell constant, which links the measured resistance to the actual conductivity of the medium. This constant depends on sensor geometry, electrode arrangement, frequency, and the measurement environment.
iST conductivity sensors are carefully characterized over defined frequency ranges to ensure stable and accurate operation. Both two‑electrode designs for low‑conductivity media and four‑electrode geometries for higher conductivities are available, each optimized for precision and reliability. Temperature effects, which significantly influence ion mobility, can be compensated with integrated temperature sensors to further improve measurement accuracy.
