Industrial Cyber Security
In an age of rapid technological progress, new innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and robotics offer tremendous opportunities. They enable more efficient production, greater flexibility, and new business models. However, the more interconnected machines, systems, and production processes become, the larger the attack surface: vulnerabilities previously present in isolated systems can suddenly be exploited through communication links or open interfaces. Such gaps in industrial cybersecurity not only pose risks of business interruptions and significant economic damage but can also lead to direct physical dangers, for example, if safety-relevant controls are manipulated. This is a particular threat to the industrial cybersecurity of Industry 4.0.

Innovative winding technology for the ultimate electric car
How do you build an engine that is half the size of current gasoline engines but delivers over 600 hp – for a car capable of over 1,000 hp? Schaeffler ELMOTEC STATOMAT delivers that solution. In order to build these super electric car engines, Schaeffler ELMOTEC STATOMAT mastered the process of flat wire wave shaft winding. Compared with the traditional hairpin process, the flat wire wave is processed into a continuously mesh, significantly reducing the number of welds which are the primary cause of motor failure. These more compact windings lower electrical loss and result in more power and reliability. In order to successfully wind these stators, the flat copper wires must be laid simultaneously with one another from several directions at the same time and without causing damage to the wires. Schaeffler ELMOTEC STATOMAT achieves this by utilizing twelve Franke bearing assemblies per winding machine. The bearing assemblies are aligned and move linearly to one other. "Because we receive the bearing assemblies as complete components from Franke, we avoid sum errors in the tolerances," explains Dominik Knopp, project manager at Schaeffler ELMOTEC STATOMAT. The precision in the Franke bearing assemblies makes it possible for these machines to hold the tight tolerances required. Franke's wire race element technology allows for custom designed assemblies – materials, dimensional flexibility, and load capacity can be individually selected for optimization. Another advantage of Franke wire race bearings is their compactness and high center clearance. "With the Franke bearing assemblies, it was possible to ensure sufficient space for winding without going beyond the dimensions of the entire machine. The weight aspect is also important here: Thanks to the material aluminum in the bearing housings, we reduce the moving mass, which in turn benefits precision," explains Kai-Uwe Pahl.

Innovative Wireless Safety System RE 6900
Maintenance work, service and setup operations on robot cells or the emergency stop shutdown of large machines and systems place high demands on safety – especially when shutdown and enable must be performed wirelessly. This is exactly where the new wireless safety system RE 6900 from the SAFEMASTER W series by Dold comes in: The system enables safe shutdown via wireless emergency stop or safety-oriented enabling in setup mode with the wireless enabling switch. Developed for maximum mobility with the highest level of safety up to Cat. 4 / PL e or SIL 3, the wireless handheld transmitter is the ideal solution for modern automation and maintenance concepts. The wireless enabling switch enables safe operation and prevents the unintentional initiation of dangerous movements, as only an activated centre position of the three-stage switch gives the wireless enable for machine movement. Releasing or pressing the switch interrupts the movement and triggers a safety-related shutdown. Thanks to its ergonomic design, the wireless enabling switch fits perfectly in the hand and allows intuitive one-handed operation - with maximum safety up to Cat. 4 / PL e or SIL 3. The wireless enabling switch is primarily used in robotics for service and maintenance work, while the wireless emergency stop is particularly convincing in large-scale facilities, transport or logistics areas - anywhere where a quick response from a distance is required. With bidirectional wireless communication, motion and shock detection and user authentication via RFID the wireless safety system RE 6900 enables maximum safety and flexibility in everyday industrial use.

KS right-angle servo gearbox – Successful lateral thinking
Compared to multi-stage variants, one-stage right-angle servo gearboxes have a more compact design and higher energy efficiency due to the reduced number of components. The new one-stage version is available in gear ratios 2 and 4. In combination with the compact STOBER planetary gearboxes, solutions consisting of multi-stage gearboxes with ratios from 6 to 400 can be implemented. The previous gear ratio range has therefore more than doubled. The KS right-angle servo gearbox features robust bearing technology, high-quality gearing technology and very high torsional stiffness. This makes it perfect for demanding applications with high dynamics. Thanks to low-friction bearing technology in the input, the KS gearbox achieves higher speeds across all variants than many competitors that rely on preloaded tapered roller bearings. In addition, the nominal torques have been increased by up to 20 percent. In combination with the smaller gear ratios, significantly higher output speeds are possible. The two- and three-stage gearboxes can be combined with various STOBER motors via direct attachment. Thanks to the space-saving drive, operators benefit from less weight in addition to high torque and the resulting increased power density. The mass moment of inertia of the gearbox is lower due to the absence of the motor adapter, meaning that the full dynamics of the drive can be used.
